Retro PC Gaming, Anyone?

There is a joy to rediscovering the games of yesterday. I recently was challenged by a friend to a game of Starcraft - over the internet and at late hours. Aafter finding it in my collection, I loaded the game in minutes and set to defending my gaming honor. After soundly defeating my opponent I discovered myself bitten with a strange urge to rediscover these gems.

It is immediately apparent what made these games great - and though the pixels can be a little unsettling after being exposed to the graphic beauty of games like Dawn of War: Dark Crusade and Guild Wars, you find that you really don’t mind as much as you get immersed in the gameplay. Rediscover games that offered hours of fun, like the previously mentioned Starcraft and my recent addiction of Diablo II, and the Westwood games classic of Red Alert 2. These games offer immersive campaign stories and hugely fun competitive options as well.

Current gaming monster rigs will have absolutely no problems with these games, but I find the most appealing options of these rediscovered gems is that even the “off the shelf” standard computer will handle these as well as your pal's super-gaming machine, leaving no friends out of your games, no matter what kind of PC system they have.

The last (and perhaps most appealing?) aspect of these games is the price. Games that are immensely enjoyable and playable on darn near any machine are available for the price range of $10 to $15, and many can be found in sets with their expansions, for pricing of $20 to $40.

When you compare the games you buy now for $49-69 dollars with no idea of their actual play value - and nothing to go on but their ad campaign hype - I think that many will be dusting off these tried and true gaming classics.
