Look Out For The Portal

There is something about solving puzzles in another dimension that clearly appeals to video gamers. Which may explain why gamers have been so quick to snap up Portal, which was originally released for the computer and has now made the rounds for video game systems as well. Xbox was the first system to receive the release. A first person game with a compelling mixture of action as well as mysteries to put together, Portal has been getting its fair share of attention in the gaming world.

Originally released by Microsoft as part of the Orange Box, which included other games as well, Portal caught on because of its unique style of game play.  Players are asked to solve a series of puzzles, a task which must be completed by teleporting to other flat planes to discover the solutions.  Characters receive their marching orders from “GlaDOS,” who will give a reward of cake, if the problems are solved correctly.

Portal has become so popular, in spite of the fact that it is a somewhat short story line, that now there is even merchandise for gamers to purchase related to the game. The storyline has been lauded for its unique and humorous approach, although the humor is said to be somewhat dark. Players particularly enjoyed the twist of the portals, which serve as both entrances and exits throughout the play of the game. Some gamers declared that Portal was the most unique game of last year and it continues to enjoy a warm reception from players today.
