Professor Layton and the Curious Village is a brain-busting treasure hunting adventure video game mainly for the Nintendo DS developed by Level-5 and is the parent installment of its kind. Players with Wi-Fi Connection can unlock special codes to get new clues to solve the mystery of "The Golden Apple." It was first available in Japan, and slowly made its debut into North America and Australia with expectations to be in Europe between September and November. The game currently sells for $29.99.
The storyline is about a professor and his assistant were hired by widow of a deceased baron to find a treasure that he had hidden the village. The family members had tried to find it themselves but had had no luck. You play as the professor, solving clues in form of various mini mind-trivial games. These items can be found by talking to other villagers or looking into objects that can be opened or picked up. You can bank these riddles or mind games to solve later but you must solve the required ones in order to move on. The non-essential ones could lead to other clues and other mini games. The ultimate prize is finding the precious "Golden Apple."
Since its debut in February 11, 2008, the game has made some impressions to brain testing gaming genre. IGN gave it an overall 8 out of 10 and Gamespot gave it 9 out of 10. Its unique mixed genre has earned a second place spot for the mini games category.
