Portal was voted one of the most entertaining games with a uniquely designed gameplay that is freshly creative and achieved a 90% appraisal since its first debut. It is an action adventure/puzzle solving video game with a unexpected twist. The developers were a small group of seven students hired by Valve for their creation of Narbacular Drop, which Portal was based on.
You play as Chell, a test subject who is guided by a corrupted computer named GLaDOS, who gives you false hope of getting out of the compound alive. As you traverse around the labyrinth of deadly rooms with a "portal" gun that creates entry and exiting wormholes, you solve numerous puzzles using the in-game physics in an attempt to garner the so-called "cake" prize. The wormholes can only be created on flat surfaces, and are colored orange or blue. Alone the way you will meet a great companion, aptly named "Companion Cube," but your adventures with the beloved cube soon turn dire.
The game has won many awards, and has faired a little better than Valve's own Half-Life 2 and Team Fortress 2. It currently has a playable demo available from the online service Steam, and is compiled in the game "The Orange Box" for the XBOX 360, the Playstation 3, and the Windows PC. Valve is planning on making a sequel named Portal 2. Portal is currently priced at $20 for consoles and $10 for PC, so it is a bargain for such a thrilling new concept game with a highly loyal fan base.
