Back to the Liberty City Streets in Grand Theft Auto 4

In the recent blockbuster Grand Theft Auto 4, travel still consists of on-foot or in a vehicle of choice, ranging from cars to boats and even motorcycles and helicopters. Crimes of a lesser degree are still handled by the Liberty City police, and higher wanted levels still call out the choppers and water craft as well as the FBI, but the police SWAT and military teams from previous GTA games have now been replaced by a new counter-terrorism force known as N.O.O.S.E.

When police are in search of Niko, the protagonist of the game, the game screen will now display a radius showing where the police are looking. If the player keeps out of trouble and out of the radius while police are searching, then eventually the officers will give up and the radius will fade; however, if the player gets into trouble while the radius is still in effect, this will cause the radius to broaden. Players can now target individual body parts as well as slide to cover, use blind fire, and free aim.

Pedestrians with cell phones can also report crimes that they witness being committed. The player will also have a mobile phone at their disposal, allowing them to contact the police, paramedics, or the fire department. The player can also use their mobile phone to view text messages and appointments. The game also has an in-game version of the internet that can be used by accessing the internet cafe chain, "TW@." Players can also use police cars' in-car computers to obtain info on various criminals, allowing them to even track the criminals down for rewards.
