It sounds like a great name for a soap opera, but, it just happens that “The World Ends With You” is one of the newest and hottest video games on the market! The game was developed by “Kingdom Hearts” team, Square Enix and Jupiter for the Nintendo DS handheld video console.

Keeping in tune with the latest fashion trends, art, and youth cultures, this game is all about action role-playing. The idea of the game is centered around the main character, Neku and his friends, based in the shopping district of downtown Tokyo. They receive an assignment which has to be completed within 7 days, or he gets wiped out of existence. The role-playing takes place by the player performing part of the actions by just touching the screen or shouting into the microphone. It seems the missions to be accomplished involve many aspects of the current Japanese youth surroundings, many of which include the use of cell phones, trendy fashions, music, and the food they eat.

“The World Ends With You” hit the Japanese markets in July of 2007, and found its way to the shelves in America by April of 2008. Since its inception, the game has received rave reviews by all avid gamers, as well as the gaming industries. The first week the game was released in Japan, it became the second-best selling DS title in Japan. It was the #1 selling DS title when it hit the United States! Critics are giving the game a total “thumbs up” for being innovative, interactive, fabulous artistic design, and super sound tracking.
