On August 12th, 2008, video game sports fans were introduced to the 20th anniversary installment of the Madden NFL video game franchise. After 20 years of Madden games, Electronic Arts and developer Tiburon hoped to deliver their “most complete NFL football package ever.” The game can be bought on a variety of gaming systems, including the Nintendo DS, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PSP, Wii, Xbox, and Xbox 360. It is also available on mobile devices.
The game offers 85 new features, including a new feature called an Adaptive Difficulty Engine. This new feature allows people of all skill types and difficulty levels to enjoy the game because as they play, the game will actually customize itself to their playing style. Along with this unique feature, other innovative features include a Virtual Training Center and Backtrack. The Virtual Training Center allows players to “fine-tune their game” while BackTrack gives customized feedback on game play and mistakes and then allows the player to rewind and fix those mistakes.
There are other new aspects offered on this 20th Madden NFL game. Cris Collinsworth and Tom Hammond use their football knowledge to provide commentary on game play. Fans of the game and video game fans in general will also be excited to hear they can now play with their favorite NFL team in an online league. Gamers will also be thrilled about the improved graphics and new player’s models. Not only will players look more authentic and vivid, but the stadium environment also appears more realistic than past Madden games. With all these new features, fans and critics agree EA has delivered another successful addition to their video game franchise.
