Professor Layton and the Curious Village is a click and point adventure game that was developed by Level-5 for Nintendo DS game systems. This game received an 8.0 to 9.0 rating on a scale of 10. It was first released in Japan in February of 2007, and then later released in North America, Australia, and Europe in 2008. This is the first in the Professor Layton series. The game consists of over 120 brain teasers. The puzzles range from brain teasers, sliding puzzles, logic puzzles, to other mathematical puzzles. The game is divided into a number of sections, which the player can move between. Some of the sections of the story are locked and inaccessible until the story has advanced or the player has met a minimum of solved puzzles.
The idea of the story is that Professor Layton and his assistant, Luke must solve the mystery of the "Golden Apple." In their travels they are faced with other mysteries that are presented by the townsfolk. As the story opens, Professor Layton and Luke have been invited to the town of St Mystere by Lady Dahlia, the widow of Lord Baron, who left his last will and testament to whomever can solve the mystery of the "Golden Apple." After many have tried and failed, Lady Dahlia called for Layton, because of his ability to solve puzzles.
Once Professor Layton has solved all of the puzzles and the player has advanced far enough in the game, the treasure to the mystery of the "Golden Apple" will be revealed. A demo of the game can be played on the game's website, showing interested players what the game is all about. Info about Professor Layton and the Curious Village and walktroughs for the game can be found on numerous sights on the web. New puzzles can be downloaded from the web via the Nintendo WiFi connection.
