The video game known as “Portal” was developed and released by Valve Corporation in 2007. The whole concept for the game is built around a simple idea, the creation of portals with which you can travel through. The player plays as a woman named Chell. Chell uses a weapon, called a portal gun, to create two portals or holes that she or other objects can enter and exit. The player must utilize these portals to solve various puzzles throughout the game.
There is very little story within this game, seeing as you play as a test subject that is just trying to complete a experiment. The only other character in the game, besides yourself, is a robot which runs the whole facility you are in. Right from the start you realize that there is something wrong with the robot, but must go through the trials anyways. You encounter a great number of hazards and dangers as you progress through the game, still using the portal gun to figure out safe ways around them.
Eventually, you reach the end of the game and confront the robot that has been putting your through all of the trials. There is a climactic ending that leaves the player feeling satisfied and liberated, but you will have to play the game yourself to find out what happens.
This video game is available for play on the PC, Xbox, Xbox 360 and the PS3 game platforms. There have been many variations that have stemmed from the original. These newer versions have more evolved variations to the test chambers that you encountered during the original game. There has actually been a Adobe Flash version released on the internet, which is not as sophisticated as the actual game itself.
Portal can be purchased online at the very reasonable price of $20.
