This is a popular first person action/puzzle game that was first released in October 2007. It is available for several systems including Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. The game has been well received even though playtime is relatively short.
Portal is played in the first person. You are the character Chell and you must solve a series of puzzles using the portal gun also known as an ASHPD or Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device. This device allows your player to move from one puzzle to the next. Chell has special shoes to help keep her from being hurt when moving from one area to another, but she can be killed or harmed by various means.
The levels contain various weapons such as turret guns, bouncing balls of electricity or pools of toxic liquid that will kill her. She can also be damaged by items that come through the portals. Things that go into the portals maintain their speed but can change direction if the portal in the next "room" is in a different position.
GLaDOS starts out as a friendly and helpful presence for Chell, when she wakes up alone in a barren chamber. As Chell proceeds through the game, GLaDOS provides her with tips and information about the areas. Once Chell reaches the end of the game however, it quickly becomes apparent that GLaDOS has gone haywire and Chell now must navigate through the "underground" of the game to escape.
For those that love this game, there is an expansion pack as well as a sequel, Portal 2. If this seems like your kind of game, be sure to check it out.
