In March 2008, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII came to the United States. This role-playing game (RPG) was developed by Square Enix for the PSP. It took the game world by storm. Crisis Core uses both action and menu based elements. The battle system is known as digital mind wave. It has reels at the left corner of the screen that spin as long as there are soldier points left. There is added difficulty in the North American and European releases of Crisis Core. This game has received generally positive reviews. GameSpot gave the game a score of 9 out of 10. IGN gave the game 8.5 out of 10. It was nominated for the "Best of 2008" award in "Best Story," "Best RPG Game" and "Best PSP Game of 2008."
Crisis Core is a single player game on the PSP. It has real time graphics, FMV sequences and an engrossing battle system. It has a rich cast of characters that include the central character, Zack Fair, who is one of the members from the original game. Weiss, Genesis, and Nero are many of the returning characters as well. Zack is a soldier 2nd class that wants to be 1st. He carries out his assignments under the 1st class mentor, Angeal Hewley. The story is most engaging. With the completion of the game, the player obtains a new game plus option.
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII sold approximately 350,000 copies in Japan on its release date. This included 77,777 limited editions PSP/Crisis Core bundles. It sold over 301,600 copies upon its first month of release in the United States. It is the sixth best-selling game overall. Crisis Core had sold about 1,920,000 units worldwide as of September 2008.
