In Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Nintendo Wii, players can choose from a wide selection of characters and levels. The goal in the game is to knock your opponent off of the screen in order to win the battle. Unlike the traditional health bar that can be found in other competitor and battle games, the battling characters will have a bar that will record the damage they receive instead of the life they have left. The higher the damage, the farther back the character will go when hit. Depending on the mode that the player decides to play, when they are knocked off of the screen, they will either lose coins, a life, or a point.
Various items will also occasionally appear on the battlefield for the quickest character to retrieve and use against their opponent. Many of the items that will appear have been featured in previous Smash Bros. games, but there are a few new additions as well. Assist trophies can be used by a player or character to call out non-playable characters to the field to either help or hinder the player. It just depends on who uses the trophy.
Another cool feature top the game is the players ability to customize their options, as well as the game. A few examples of the options a player can alter includes gravity, size of characters, the game speed, and even make characters made of steel and/or invisible. In Special Brawl and regular battles, players will be allowed to customize and decide which items will appear during game-play, as well as when they will appear and what kind of handicaps will be used in gameplay.
